Navaratri which means nine ratris(nights) is one of the important festivals in India and Nepal and it is celebrated with a lot of fan fare. Navaratri is celebrated on two occasions in a year in India. Chaitra Navaratri which is first celebrated in the month of March to April and Sharad Navaratri which is celebrated in the month of September to October. Navaratri celebrations also include fasting, prepration of various delicacies, dance and prayers.
As per the Hindu Mythology, Navaratri is celebrated to mark the nine days Lord Shiva allowed his wife Goddess Durga to visit her mother. It is believed that Goddess Durga takes nine different forms during these nine days and bestows her blessings on earth. During the first three days Goddess takes the form of Durga, following three days form of Lakshmi and then the form of Saraswati in the last three days.
Every Navaratri day is also associated with a different color. Navratri Colours for Every Day
1st Day (Pratipada): Pratipada is the first day of the Pooja wherein Goddess Durga is worshiped as Shaiputri wherein Shail means mountains and Putri means daughter i.e. Mountain daughter. This day is associated with the color Red.

2nd Day (Dwitiya): Dwitiya is the second day wherein goddess is worshiped as Brahmacharini. This day signifies the color Royal Blue and people should also wear clothes of this color.

3rd Day (Tritiya): Tritiya is the third day wherein the Durga Goddess is worshipped as Chandraghanta. Third day is represented by the color Yellow.

6th Day (Sashti): Sixth day of Navaratri is known as Sashti and Durga Goddess is worshiped in the form of Katyayani. Orange color is associated with this day.

7th Day (Saptami): This day of Navaratri is known as Saptami. Goddess Durga is worshiped as Kalratri, which reflects a black and dark night. This day belongs to White color.

10th Day(Dusshera): This day on which the goddess Durga kills Mahishasura, is celebrated as Dusshera or Vijayadashami. It signifies as the victory of good over evil. Dusshera is one of the widely celebrated festivals in India. This day is associated with the color Purple.
